Turkey

Overview

Straddling two continents, Turkey's culture is formed from both European and Asian traditions. Formerly a Byzantine territory and home also at various times to the Romans, Persians and Phrygians, Turkey's heritage has bequeathed it numerous historic sites and archaeological remains. Turkey's Mediterranean coast contains the Greco-Roman cities of Pergamom and Ephesus and Istanbul, Turkey's capital, offers up Roman aqueducts, Ottoman mosques and Byzantine churches.

Weather

Istanbul's summer is hot and humid with temperatures averaging 28°C. However, winters can be cold and wet, and occasionally there may be snow. Istanbul is also one of Turkey's more windy cities.

Ankara temperatures range from -4C to 30°C, whilst Marmara and the Aegean & Mediterranean coasts experience a typical Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild but wet winters.

Turkey's Black Sea coast is wettest of all.
