Mexico

Overview

For those seeking rest & relaxation, just head for Mexico. With its year-round sunshine, fine beaches and warm & clear water as well as Mexico's spectacular coral reefs and surfing hot-spots, you'll find Mexico a great place to relax. And once the sun has disappeared, it's time to try some of Mexico's varied cuisine and range of drinks.

If you fancy some time away from the beaches, however, Mexico reveals a wealth of history and you'll be spoilt for choice when considering whether to visit Mexico's ancient Aztec ruins, the remains of Mexico's Spanish Catholic heritage or the numerous temples and pyramids left behind by some of Mexico's other former peoples, the Mayans.

Weather

Mexico boasts sunshine the whole year round, although the months of May to October are considered Mexico's rainy season.

Mexico's climate varies according to altitude, with the capital, Mexico City enjoying mild temperatures with the cooler weather being from December to March.

Mexico's Caribbean resorts - primarily on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula - can be hot and humid with rain towards the evening. Hurricane season in this part of Mexico is between June and October. The best time to visit the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico is between December and May.

Mexico's Pacific resorts - for example Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco - enjoy hot and sunny weather throughout the year, although the summer months in this Mexican region see the arrival of heavy rains and, on occasion, hurricanes.

In Mexico's northern desert it is hot during the day and cold at night.

Main resorts & attractions

For a beach-based holiday, you can't beat Mexico for number and variety. On the Yucatan Peninsula there is Cancun and the Riviera Maya - Mexico's most popular destination. Further south is Cozumel. This area of Mexico boasts resorts such as Playa del Carmen, Playa Paraiso, Punta Brava, Playacar and Puerta Aventuras.

On the Pacific coast near to Mexico's second city, Guadalajara, is Puerto Vallarta, Mexico's surf hot-spot. Acapulco, Mexico's most famous original resort, once the playground of Mexico's rich and famous and now enjoying a new lease of life, is also located on the Pacific Coast. Further south, Huatulco in Mexico's Oaxaca region also offers a good choice of beaches in unspoilt locations.

Away from the beach, a holiday to Mexico is a perfect opportunity to explore the ruins of Mexico's many ancient sites. A large number of Aztec, Mayan, Olmec pyramids and temples are dotted around the whole of Mexico - Chichen Itza, Teotihuacan, Palenque, Uxmal and Monte Alban, to name but a few.
