USA
Overview
The United States of America - or the USA as it is more commonly known - comprises 50 States, is the world's 3rd largest country by land area and by population, and is one of the world's most ethnically diverse countries.
The world's greatest economy, home to some of the world's most famous sights - both man-made and natural - the USA is a vast country attracting millions of business and leisure visitors each year.
Weather
It's almost impossible to summarise the USA's weather as, depending on which American State you are in, the climate is different.
The USA's most northerly state is Alaska, which has an Arctic climate and its most southerly, Hawaii and Florida, are tropical. The USA's great central plains are semi-arid and the USA's southwest Great Basin is arid.
Even within an individual State - eg California - you can find hot and sunny beach weather, arid deserts as well as high mountain ranges giving rise to cooler temperatures. California's monthly average temperature goes from 33°C in summer to -10°C in winter.
In New York, temperatures range from 29°C to lows of -11°C. In the USA's southern states, for instance in Texas, temperatures can climb as high as 37°C yet sink as low as -5°C.
